T-Mobile Enhances Signaling Network Agility with Nexign DRA

T-Mobile has deployed Nexign DRA to strengthen the security and reliability of the Diameter signaling network, especially under increased data usage and peak loads. The implementation was completed in just three months.

Nexign and T-Mobile, one of the leading MVNOs in Russia, successfully completed the migration of signaling traffic to Nexign Diameter Routing Agent (DRA) for all 6 million subscribers. Nexign DRA centralizes Diameter traffic routing and management, as well as real-time load balancing for all 4G core network functions.

T-Mobile sought a new solution to replace its legacy product, which was no longer supported by the vendor — it increased security risks and limited the operator's ability to flexibly configure the network. Switching to Nexign DRA gave the operator a secure foundation for stable and uninterrupted network operations. The solution enables the operator’s staff to customize routing and load balancing logic using a highly configurable rules engine without assistance from the Nexign team. This gives T-Mobile more control over network load and adaptability and also allows a faster time to market for new services. Nexign DRA operates in two modes in the MVNO’s network — as a Diameter Routing Agent and a Diameter Edge Agent (DEA), enabling safe signaling traffic exchange with mobile network operators (MNOs) and roaming partners.

The full migration spanned three months from initial planning through product deployment. It was completed without disruption or degradation to service quality.

T-Mobile stands out as one of the most innovative and progressive players in the Russian telecom market. It is crucial for them to maintain network reliability and secure an advantage in rapidly adopting new monetization strategies. We are pleased that T-Mobile has chosen to partner with Nexign, utilizing our advanced platform to drive sustained growth in their network and business.

Security and continuous connectivity are among our highest priorities. After the previous vendor’s withdrawal, it became clear that we couldn’t deliver the quality of service we expected for T-Mobile subscribers. This would have compromised our product and hindered timely upgrades and technical enhancements. Nexign resolved these issues through the swift deployment of their solution.

Nexign DRA is a hardware-agnostic software that supports bare metal deployment, as well as virtualized (VNF) and containerized (CNF) deployment using Kubernetes. The solution is developed in compliance with international standards (3GPP, ETSI). Nexign has a successful track record of replacing legacy DRA/DEA products from international vendors used in Tier 1-3 operator networks — without sacrificing performance, flexibility, or reliability of signaling operations.
